McGovern Demands Trump Get Tough on China's Abysmal Human Rights Record

On Wednesday, September 23 at 1:00 PM ET, Congressman Jim McGovern, Ranking Member of the House Rules Committee and Co-Chair of the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission, will convene a press conference ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Washington on September 24th.    At the press conference, McGovern and representatives of the Tibetan, Uyghur, Hong Kong and Chinese communities will highlight the repeated and ongoing human rights violations perpetrated by President Xi Jinping and the Chinese government against the people of the People’s Republic of China. McGovern will also demand that the Trump Administration raise these concerns in a serious way and at the highest levels with their Chinese counterparts—as well as ensuring that any collaboration or cooperation with the Chinese government hinge on tangible human rights improvements in China.
